Thoughtful, emotive and dynamic; Ashley Hutton is an Australian saxophone player and composer. Taking inspiration from titans of the genre, Ashley’s playing is influenced by the likes of Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, along with modern greats like Walter Smith III, and Melissa Aldana. He currently holds a residency at Proud Henry, where he hosts the gig and jam session twice a month. Mentored by the likes of James Sandon, Jeff Reid, Steve Newcomb and Jeff Usher, Ashley is forging a unique voice as a saxophone player.
Through his young career, he’s shared the stage and studio with award winning artists such as Tower of Power, Stonebwoy, Nicki Bomba , Kita Alexander, Thando Sikwila, Jude York, Blake O’Connor, and JUNO. Working with these artists has led him to perform at venues and festivals around the country including the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Brisbane Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, CMC Rocks, among others.
He currently resides in Meanjin/Brisbane and is studying at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music Griffith University.
