Quentin Angus (USA):
Beginning his journey in Eden Valley, a small South Australian country town with a population of only 200, guitarist/composer Quentin Angus has been based in the world's Mecca for jazz—New York City—since 2010. Since his arrival he has received national and international recognition for both his guitar playing and composing. This includes an APRA Art Music Award for 'Excellence in Jazz' (2012), subsequent nominations in 2013 ('Excellence in Jazz') and 2014 ('Work of the Year'), winning three ASCAP 'Young Jazz Composer Awards' (2012/2013/2015), five Downbeat Magazine Awards in the 'Composition' (2011/2012/2014) and 'Soloist' (2012/2014) categories, and being named the Channel 9 'Young Achiever of the Year' (Arts Category/2013).
Angus has performed as a band leader around the world with performances in Holland, Belgium, Romania, Switzerland, Turkey, New Zealand, Australia and the United States. This includes appearances at the 'Montreux International Jazz Festival' (Switzerland), Detroit International Jazz Festival (USA), and sharing the stage with jazz luminaries Kevin Hays, John Abercrombie, Shai Maestro, Colin Stranahan, Rogerio Boccatto, Elliot Mason, and Will Vinson.
Ari Hoenig (USA):
Ari Hoenig (born on November 13, 1973 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), is a jazz
drummer, composer and educator known for his unusual and intense approach to
drumming emphasizing complex rhythms in direct harmony with other group members.
Ari is widely noted particularly for his drumming not being relegated to just keeping
tempo, or being a side issue to the music he plays in, but rather for elevating drumming
as an indispensable part of the performance.
Hoenig is also known for his unique ability to modify the pitch of a drum by using drum
sticks, mallets, and even parts of his body (such as his hands and elbows). Using this
technique, he can play any note in the chromatic scale, virtually any melody, and even
improvise on a chord structure in the same way as any other instrumentalist would.
Sam Anning (AUS):
Sam Anning is one of Australia's premier bassists. He is in high demand as an accompanist and is best known for his work with Cyrille Aimée, Florian Hoefner, Timo Vollbrecht, and Kenny Werner. After graduating from WAAPA completing a Bachelor of Jazz (Performance) Sam relocated to Melbourne where he became an integral member of the Jazz scene. More recently, Sam relocated to New York City where he completed the Masters of Music (Performance) at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music.
Accolades include winning 1st place in the 2015 Wangaratta National Jazz Awards, Toyota Scholarship for Jazz (2001), finalist in the James Morrison Scholarship twice, performed at the Sydney Opera House as a finalist in the 2006 Freedman Fellowship, finalist in the 2007 Melbourne Prize for Music, received 3rd place in the 2008 National Jazz Awards, received the 2008 Bell Award for Young Jazz Musician of the Year, was selected and participated in the 2009 Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music, 2009 ARIA Award nomination for ‘Best Jazz Album’, and received the 2010 Bell Award for Classic Jazz Album of the Year (‘Homage’– Anning, Hannaford, Browne-Jazzhead).Write here...
