THE VAMPIRES + MATT SMITH (Sydney)
The Vampires are renowned for their blend of soulful jazz, old-school reggae, exotic Balkan melodies and all-out funk-laden Afrobeat. Combined with risk-taking improvisation, sophisticated compositions and an uncanny sense of dialogue and emotion between the sax/trumpet front line, the band defies these genres and have wrought a style of their own.
Matt Smith has quickly become one of the most sought after guitarists of his generation. He has relentlessly toured around the world with artists including Thirsty Merc, Pete Murray, Karise Eden, and The Strides. Whilst Matt can burn on a blistering rock solo, he also has an impeccable jazz sensibility honed under studies with Jim Kelly at Southern Cross University in Lismore. Along with 10 years of playing with both Jeremy and Nick in the Strides, this will be a must-see collaboration.
