John’s compositions reflect a colourful journey in music. From classical beginnings at The Royal College of Music, to the London Jazz scene, and since 2003 a consistent performing career in Australia.
Africa called, and on a ‘Professional Development Grant’ from Arts Queensland in 2007, John studied drum, dance and song in Ghana, West Africa. He has returned almost full circle to this latest set of compositions, using Jazz as the medium it has always been to marry the sophistication of western harmony with the rhythm and heart of African music. This is improvised music to lift the soul.
