The New Generation of Jazz presents Mèvas Journal: A Hard Bop Revival

The Brisbane Jazz Club proudly presents: THE NEW GENERATION OF JAZZ

We're thrilled to announce the launch of our new fortnightly Wednesday evening gigs!

The Brisbane Jazz Club is a not-for-profit club that has been delighting members and guests with live music for over 50 years. The club showcases the rich pool of established musicians in Southeast Queensland and beyond, as well as encouraging and developing new and emerging musicians.

As a component of the club’s Growing Jazz in Queensland initiative, the best student small jazz combos from the Jazz Music Institute and The Queensland Conservatorium of Music will play a series of fortnightly shows on Wednesdays at the Brisbane Jazz Club. The students (including student sound engineers) will have the opportunity to develop their talents at paid shows as a pathway to careers as professional musicians.

About the Band
Méva’s Journals is an original hard bop band that moves through many aspects of Jazz and Afro-Cuban inspired music while holding the authentic sound of the late 50’s and early 60’s Hard-Bop style of Art Blakey and Horace Silver. The band pays tribute to the early Bebop and Avant-Garde composers that Evan takes much of his sound from, such as Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Eric Dolphy and Freddie Redd. They will be playing music from their debut albumChimerareleased in late September.

The Band features an ensemble of Jazz Music Institute (JMI) students, Evan J. Evans (Drum Set), Alex Askew (Upright Bass), Jordan Stitt (Piano), Chris James (Alto Saxophone) and Tyger Middleton (Tenor Saxophone).

Introducing Our New Gigs Nights!
Our new fortnightly Wednesday evening gigs will be exclusively devoted to The New Generation of Jazz program, which means these nights will have a different format compared to our other performances. The bands performing on these nights will consist of highly talented students from either Jazz Music Institute (JMI) or The Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

For these gigs, seating will be general admission, so you won’t need to choose specific seats when booking—just select your ticket type.

We'll be offering delicious pizzas, along with our usual selection of bar snacks, to enjoy during the event.
